India Drives Indonesia Palm Oil Export to $3.92B

The rebound followed a monthly price correction and lands as GAPKI's own leadership flags El Niño-linked risk to 2027 production.

Indonesia's palm oil product exports rose 64.08% in June 2026 from May, reaching 3.275 million tons. GAPKI (Indonesia's palm oil association) reported that export value climbed to US$3.92 billion, per an official statement received by Palm Oil Magazine on Aug. 26.

Key Facts

  • Up 64.08% from May, June export volume reached 3.275 million tons.
  • Average CPO export prices fell 4.32% to US$1,174 per ton in June.
  • India's palm oil imports from Indonesia rose 328,000 tons in June, a 396% monthly gain.

GAPKI attributed the jump to broad-based growth across processed palm oil, crude palm oil, and palm kernel oil shipments. Processed palm oil exports rose 66% to 2.357 million tons in June from 1.423 million tons in May.

CPO exports climbed further. Shipments went from just 31,000 tons in May to 335,000 tons in June, an increase of roughly 980% off a thin base. PKO product exports also more than doubled to 116,000 tons from 55,000 tons, per Sardjono.

India and China Lead Destination Gains

Nine destination markets shifted meaningfully in June, and the gains concentrated in Asia.

  • India, up 328,000 tons, or 396%, from May
  • China, up 256,000 tons, or 67%
  • Pakistan, up 132,000 tons, or 88%
  • Malaysia, up 129,000 tons, or 149%
  • Africa, up 114,000 tons, or 45%
  • Bangladesh, up 98,000 tons, or 133%
  • United States, up 85,000 tons, or 64%
  • Russia, down 25,000 tons, or 20%
  • European Union (27 members), down 4,000 tons, or 2%

The picture shifts over a longer window. Cumulative exports to China ran 31% ahead of the same period in 2025 through June. Shipments to Malaysia rose 13% and to Russia 7% over the same stretch.

Exports to the United States fell 8% over the same six months, and shipments to India and Pakistan each declined 7%.

Average CPO Export Prices Fell 4.32% in June

June's volume surge came with a price pullback. Average CPO export prices fell 4.32% to US$1,174 per ton in June from US$1,227 per ton in May.

MDEX, the Malaysia Derivatives Exchange, showed a similar pattern: average prices slipped from about US$1,134 per ton in May to US$1,107 per ton in June.

Despite the monthly dip, cumulative export value for H1 2026 rose 12.57% year-on-year to US$19.45 billion. This compares with US$17.277 billion over the same period in 2025. H1 2026's average CPO export price came in at US$1,132 per ton, above the US$1,088-per-ton average from January through June 2025.

First-Half Exports Up 5.79%, Stocks Down From May

Indonesia's cumulative palm oil exports for H1 2026 reached 16.595 million tons, up 5.79% from 15.686 million tons in H1 2025.

Total production of CPO and PKO over the same six months came in at 30.284 million tons, up 15.82% year-on-year. Domestic consumption also climbed to 12.994 million tons in H1, up 5.48% from the same period a year earlier.

Stocks told a different story. Indonesia's palm oil inventories stood at 2.844 million tons at the end of June, down from 3.042 million tons at the end of May. Stocks remained above the 2.530 million tons on hand at the end of June 2025, per CNBC Indonesia's reporting of the same GAPKI figures.

GAPKI chairman Eddy Martono said the industry group does not expect a supply squeeze this year. He projected year-end 2026 stocks in the 2.5 million to 2.9 million ton range, per CNBC Indonesia. He flagged a separate concern further out. Persistent rain in several plantation regions, including Aceh and North Sumatra, could still cut 2027 production by an estimated 3 million tons.
